Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Top Gear Fishing Charters. Here we are, Christmas again. We are now entering the Pelagic season, What’s Pelagic? Basically it takes in all the seasonal migrating hunters, Tuna, Makeral, Mahi Mahi or Dolphin Fish, Wahoo, and Marlin. These are the premier fighting and table fish, great fun to catch and even better to eat. Here at Top Gear, we target them but do not spend the whole day chasing them, unless you specifically charter the boat for this purpose.
We use all the top line lures, skirts and hard bodies. Bottom Fishing, yes, we still concentrate on this, Species, still some Snapper around, more prolific in winter but still catching some big ones, Tailor, white bread, butter and shaved onion, nothing better, Blue Spot Flathead, one of the best fish you will ever eat, Tusk Fish, sometimes wrongly called Parrot Fish, beautiful bluey white meat, delicacy, Pearl Perch, another top line fish species, then we have numerous types of Wrasse, Trevallies and quite often one of those Pelagics will hook up on a bottom rig.
Here at Top Gear Fishing, if you catch a large fish on the Trolling Lures, we take the Photo’s of course, because these fish are usually big, we then share the fish amongst everyone so you all get some great table fish to take home, we also clean, bag and chill all your catch.
